What files actually exist in the /nfs file system? Those errors about referrals are because Ganesha is trying to check if a file is supposed to be a referral, but it can't get attributes for the file. Turning on some debug would help, add this to your config: LOG { COMPONENTS { FSAL = FULL_DEBUG; } } And either re-start or issue a SIGHUP. We can get a better idea of what is going on. Frank

Frank, Thank you for the fast reply. I updated the configuration file and just restarted the entire machine. Then I attempted to install an guest machine on ESXi and produce my regular failure. Also, any suggested reading for handing memory sizing, or additional configuration information? Currently I'm running the Ubuntu guest machine with 8GB of RAM and a 200GB virtual disk. :~$ ls /nfs SW_DVD9_Win_Server_STD_CORE_2016_64Bit_English_-4_DC_STD_MLF_X21-70526.ISO tryy :~$ ls /nfs/tryy/ Hmm, I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe turn full debug on (log may be rather large - you may want to use something like pastebin to post it): LOG { COMPONENTS { ALL = FULL_DEBUG; } } Frank

Frank,
Thank you for the fast reply.

You were not kidding about the log file size. I just copied the ganesha.log file over to a webserver that I have available. I cleared the log then restarted services then powered on the ESXi host and attempted to install a guest machine again. I stopped the nfs-ganesha service once the ESXi guest had failed. http://datacenternorth.mooo.com/ganesha.log
It may take me a while to digest that... Oh, and in the meantime, maybe getting a tcpdump -s0 -w /tmp/trace of the NFS interaction might shed some light on what is actually failing. Might make it easier to determine what to look for in that log... Frank

OK, one packet capture completed. I did not pull another log file with for this to match. Please note the source NFS client is 192.168.0.112. http://datacenternorth.mooo.com/trace
Quick update on this. This should make it a little faster to pull that log file and cut the load on my Internet link. http://datacenternorth.mooo.com/ganesha.log.gz
